Friday 10th March 2006 2nd Annual London Open poker tournament announced
World Poker Exchange has teamed up with Autumn Light Media to produce the second annual London Open poker tournament.
Bravo TV has referred to the tournament as the ‘The Wimbledon of British poker’ and like its tennis counterpart the event will be held in a prestigious venue - the historic Whitehall Palace.
The event, to take place from September 22-27, will have Thomas Kremser, CEO of the International Poker Federation, as tournament director.
Last year’s event attracted 140 of the poker world's finest players who competed for a guaranteed $2 million prize pot and this year is expected to be just as successful.
In 2005 celebrities from both sides of the pond also participated in the multiple-day event, with such Hollywood favourites as the voluptuous Jennifer Tilly, Mimi Rogers and Sex in the City's perpetually charming Willie Garson giving the pros a literal run for the money.
This year, the $10k buy-in tournament is expected to draw 300 players, driving the estimated pot to $3 million.
Qualifying for the event will be the same as last year with online qualifying tournaments being exclusively held at Worldpx.com, and are expected to begin in June.
