Wednesday 26th April 2006 Eunice Waterfield Crowned Women’s Poker Tour Champ
The first ever Women’s Poker Tour champion has been crowned in London. Eunice Waterfield from Dudley, England scooped the ‘Queen of Diamonds’ title, $40,000 prize money and a $20,000 diamond ring, having seen off 36 top players in the 888.com backed event.
Waterfield, 43, has only been playing poker seriously for five months and qualified for this Women’s Poker Tour event via a satellite tournament. She is now looking to take on the guys at World Series of Poker events having seen off the challenge of the ladies. The event was filmed at the Poker Den in London’s East End and was shown on cable channel Challenge TV. The six finalists played for a combined prize pool of $108,000, with second place Claire Gooda taking home a more than respectable $20,000.
