Friday 20th October 2006 Deal a Winning Hand with New Poker Product
Shuffle Up has launched a product which it claims could change the way poker games are played and eliminate the need for a human card dealer.
Developed in Silicon Valley by Binh Quach, a technology-savvy poker enthusiast, the product eliminates the need for a dealer. Each of the 52 cards found in an old-fashioned deck is printed in colour on a plastic tablet with a sliding shield covering each face. The holder can open and close the shield, protecting his or her hand from the eyes of other players.
To play a game with Shuffle Up, the shielded cards are placed in a bowl and mixed by hand in a way similar to dominoes. As the game begins, each player takes out the prescribed number of cards, according to the game they’re playing.
Quach said he was playing with friends when he was inspired to develop Shuffle Up. He wanted to find a better way of shuffling cards without relying on a dealer. 'We're all a bunch of amateurs. Shuffling conventional playing cards was sloppy and loosely mixed,' Quach said. 'None of us really wanted to be the dealer, so I came up with Shuffle Up.”
