Monday 30th October 2006 UK Poker Player De Wolfe Wins at EPT Dublin
Top pro Roland De Wolfe has won the Dublin leg of Season 3 of the European Poker Tour (EPT). Not content with merely beating a field of 388 players, De Wolfe also became the first player to win a World Poker Tour and EPT title.
In an action-packed final table, De Wolfe had approximately 70 per cent of the chips in play by the time there were only three players left in the game – William Thorssen, David Tavernier and De Wolfe himself. The blinds were at 30,000/60,000 with a 5,000 ante.
When Thorssen was knocked out, heads up play began. 1.4 million played 2.5 million in chips with De Wolfe still in the lead. After about a half hour of exchanges, De Wolfe sent Frenchman Tavernier packing when he filled up to trips on the turn and Tavernier moved all in on the river with a complete bluff.
'This week I didn’t have the luck of the Irish, I had the luck of the whole of Europe,” said De Wolfe after his win in which he scooped €554,300.
Previous WSOP champions Greg Raymer and Chris Moneymaker were present at the event but failed to make the leader board.
