Thursday 12th October 2006 Nguyen Follows Recipe for Hold’em Success at Austrian EPT
Thang Duc Nguyen, a 42 year-old chef from Hamburg, Germany cooked up an exciting win of €487,397 at the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour in Baden, Austria earlier this week.
At the end of the four-day tournament, Nguyen triumphed in heads-up play against New Yorker Ben Johnson to take the top prize in the €5,000 buy-in No Limit Texas Hold’em event. Chess player Johnson, 29, from Brooklyn won € 251,560 for his second place finish.
Held between October 7 and 10, the tournament attracted 331 players to the famous Austrian spa resort, nearly double last year’s field, creating a prize pool of €1,572,250.
Prior to his EPT win, Nguyen said he wasn’t ready to hang up his apron just yet, but afterwards he admitted he is now considering “taking a nice family holiday”. His win in Baden is the latest in a series of top finishes for Nguyen which include two final tables in September’s PokerStars.com World Cup of Online Poker where he picked up a total of €35,000.
The next EPT event takes place in Dublin, Ireland between October 26 and 29. Following that is Copenhagen in January, Deauville in February and the EPT Grand Final which is again taking place in Monaco at the end of March.
