WSOP Winner Speaks Out about Litigation

The 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP) champion, Jamie Gold has issued a statement regarding recent litigation launched by Bruce Crispin Leyser.

Leyser claims that he has evidence of an agreement with Gold to share half of his $12 million winnings in return for recruiting celebrities to endorse Gold's sponsors, the Bodog group. Gold has denied that this was the case.

Through his publicist, Gold released the following statement in response to the filing of the lawsuit:

'Jamie Gold is disappointed that the plaintiff, a person he has only known since July of this year, has elected to file litigation rather than continue the parties' discussions in an effort to find a resolution to this matter. Mr Gold believes strongly in the American judicial system and believes that it is better to present his case there than to try the matter before the court of public opinion.”

The statement goes on to thank the WSOP organisers and others involved in his Main Event success and ends by expressing the wish that the litigation will not detract from the outstanding efforts of the entire field of participants at the WSOP.

In the meantime, Gold's first prize winnings of $12 million dollars sit uncollected at the Rio Casino at the request of the Chief District Court Judge Kathy Hardcastle. The first hearing is scheduled for September 1 2006.
