Friday 25th August 2006 WSOP Winner Jamie Gold has 50% of Winnings Frozen by Court
If legal action against World Series of Poker (WSOP) winner Jamie Gold holds up, he’ll be the $6 million man instead of the $12 million man.
A district court judge has issued a restraining order to prevent the Bodog.com sponsored WSOP champion from collecting his winnings until the settlement of a lawsuit against Gold filed by Crispin Leyser, a television development executive and instructor for the World Poker Tour Boot Camp.
Gold allegedly had a contract with Bodog.com which paid for him to enter the Main Event in return for Gold finding celebrities to wear Bodog-sponsored clothing during the compeition. According to Leyser, after he met Gold in Las Vegas in July, they struck a deal where Leyser would help Gold find celebrities to wear the gear, and they would split whatever money was won from the WSOP seat.
Leyser claims to have fulfilled his end of the bargain by finding Matthew Lillard and Dax Shepard to wear Bodog.com gear. After Gold went won the WSOP Champion title and $12 million prize, he then backed out of the deal, reports Leyser.
