PokerStars.com to Send 315 Players to World Series

Pokerstars.com has announced that it has qualified 315 amateur players for the World’s hottest poker tournament, which kicks off in Vegas this Saturday. At $10,000 per buy-in, PokerStars.com will be hoping that amongst their ranks lies another Chris Moneymaker who, in 2003, turned a $39 tournament entry into $2.5 million, after qualifying through PokerStars.

And with a 138% increase of entrants over last year generating an estimated record-breaking prize-pool of $20 million, speculation suggests that the champion may once more be an unknown amateur who emerges from the shadows into the bright lights of Vegas to claim his prize.

'The continued explosion in the popularity of poker has been phenomenal,' said Lee Jones, Poker Room Manager for PokerStars. 'Just eight years ago there weren't 300 total players in this tournament, and now that number represents just PokerStars' entries. With 15% of the total tournament players, PokerStars is a real contender to produce back-to-back World Champions.'
